The Grand Mahout set off early on a ride-out to test the fuelling on the Elefant. He had spent the previous evening tweaking the carbs, and expected it to run a little lumpy until it warmed up. The lumps in the powerband were even larger than expected (and better for the roses, as it turned out). He caused quite a stir riding through Preston, which he put down to the noisy pipe.After a particularly noticeable backfire, GM pulled over to the side of the road, and then realised his mistake. With a choice of pachyderms in the garage, and a 40W lightbulb, it was a mistake that had just been waiting to happen.
