Unfortunately for the Grand Mahout, his Stelvio developed cataracts during the trip. As a result, creeping up on it from the offside was banned, for fear of startling it unnecessarily. Any approach had to be made from directly ahead, and preferably whistling. This caused endless amusement for the rest of us every time the Grand Mahout tried to get on the bike.
