From BBC Travel... Good grief !

Heavy snow and ice causing atrocious driving conditions across the country. Many roads are closed with others only passable with care. Police are warning against all but essential travel.

Highland closures:
The A939 Grantown to Dava road.
The B9007 Carrbridge to Ferness road.
The B862 Whitebridge to Fort Augustus
The A889 Laggan to Dalwhinnie road.
The A836 Dalchork to Tongue road
The B9176 Struie road.
The A82 Glencoe snow gates closed.
The A835 Aultguish to Ullapool road
The A832/A835 junction at Braemore
The unclassified Kishorn to Applecross
The A9 at Drumochter pass
The A9 at Dalwhinnie

There are a number of vehicles stuck in snow on the B8043 between Lochaline and Strontian

There are whiteout conditions on the A87 at Glenmoriston

All remaining roads remain open, but are heavily affected by snow and the public are asked to only travel if absolutely necessary

There is a high wind warning on the Skye and Kessock Bridges.

Grampian closures:
A92 Lower Northwaterbridge- Inverbervie at St Cyrus. Use A90 if travelling further south
A939 Cockbridge- Tomintoul at the Lecht Ski Centre
A939 Dava Moor
A939 Ballater-Corgarff
A93 Braemar-Cairnwell
A940 Forres-Dava at B9007 junction
B9016 Keith to Buckie at Braes of Enzie
B974 Banchory to Fettercairn
B976 Crathie to Gairnshiel

The following roads are passable with care:

A96 Keith to Fochabers.
A96 Inverurie to Huntly between Colpy and Huntly.
A95 Aberlour- Grantown on Spey( dangerous).
A98 Fochabers - Banff.
A98 Macduff - New Pitsligo between Banff and Fraserburgh.
A941 Elgin - Rothes between Elgin - Dufftown.
A920 Huntly to Dufftown.

The A96 is now passable with care between Aberdeen and Inverness.

Perth and Kinross:

The A93 is closed for 3 miles north of Blairgowrie at the Spittal of Glenshee. The access road to the Glenshee Ski Centre is closed.

The A9 will be closed southbound at Dalwhinnie and northbound at Blair Atholl overnight.

A9 Perth - Stirling road is completely closed. It's closed between Broxden Roundabout in Perth and Keir Roundabout at Dunblane due to several accidents and fallen power cables. This is causing severe congestion on surrounding routes.

There is NO access to the A9 through Dunblane in either direction. Drivers are still trying to get on the road via Dunblane and this is causing severe congestion through the town. There are also delays on the northbound M9 and the southbound M80.

The A822 is closed at Muthill

On Arran, poor weather is causing problems on the the A841. Cars are stuck in the snow

In Argyll and Bute, the A82 is blocked at Bridge of Orchy, the A817 Faslane to Luss is closed, as is the A814 Garelochhead to Loch Lomond. The A819 Inveraray to Dalmally is closed. And the A85 is shut at Dalmally due to an accident.

In Helensburgh the A818 from the A814 to the A82 is closed. Police urge drivers not to travel unless completely necessary.

Police in Inverclyde say roads are treacherous in Port Glasgow and Greenock where snow is falling. Take extreme care.

Fife police say the A823 Pitreavie Spur northbound on slip to the M90 is subject to flooding. Surface water on M90 means extreme caution must be taken.

In North Lanarkshire, police say back roads in Cumbernauld are treacherous.

In Renfrewshire, 6 inches of snow on the A761 Kilmacolm Bridge of Weir Road.

In North Ayrshire, the A760 Kilbirnie Largs road closed due to snow.

In Ayrshire, police say all roads are passable with care but 2ft of snow is causing problems through the Garnock Valley.

On the M77 Kilmarnock - Glasgow road, conditions are described as treacherous between Junction 5 Kingswell and 7 Fenwick. Thick fog means visibility is very poor.
